The main reason of the issue that struct hfsplus_inode_info
has not been properly initialized for the case of root folder.
In the case of root folder, hfsplus_fill_super() calls
the hfsplus_iget() that implements only partial initialization of
struct hfsplus_inode_info and subfolders field is not
initialized by hfsplus_iget() logic.

This patch implements complete initialization of
struct hfsplus_inode_info in the hfsplus_iget() logic with
the goal to prevent likewise issues for the case of
root folder.

The main reason of the issue that struct hfsplus_inode_info
has not been properly initialized for the case of root folder.
In the case of root folder, hfsplus_fill_super() calls
the hfsplus_iget() that implements only partial initialization of
struct hfsplus_inode_info and subfolders field is not
initialized by hfsplus_iget() logic.

This patch implements complete initialization of
struct hfsplus_inode_info in the hfsplus_iget() logic with
the goal to prevent likewise issues for the case of
root folder.

The main reason of the issue that struct hfsplus_inode_info
has not been properly initialized for the case of root folder.
In the case of root folder, hfsplus_fill_super() calls
the hfsplus_iget() that implements only partial initialization of
struct hfsplus_inode_info and subfolders field is not
initialized by hfsplus_iget() logic.

This patch implements complete initialization of
struct hfsplus_inode_info in the hfsplus_iget() logic with
the goal to prevent likewise issues for the case of
root folder.

The main reason of the issue that struct hfsplus_inode_info
has not been properly initialized for the case of root folder.
In the case of root folder, hfsplus_fill_super() calls
the hfsplus_iget() that implements only partial initialization of
struct hfsplus_inode_info and subfolders field is not
initialized by hfsplus_iget() logic.

This patch implements complete initialization of
struct hfsplus_inode_info in the hfsplus_iget() logic with
the goal to prevent likewise issues for the case of
root folder.

The main reason of the issue that struct hfsplus_inode_info
has not been properly initialized for the case of root folder.
In the case of root folder, hfsplus_fill_super() calls
the hfsplus_iget() that implements only partial initialization of
struct hfsplus_inode_info and subfolders field is not
initialized by hfsplus_iget() logic.

This patch implements complete initialization of
struct hfsplus_inode_info in the hfsplus_iget() logic with
the goal to prevent likewise issues for the case of
root folder.

The main reason of the issue that struct hfsplus_inode_info
has not been properly initialized for the case of root folder.
In the case of root folder, hfsplus_fill_super() calls
the hfsplus_iget() that implements only partial initialization of
struct hfsplus_inode_info and subfolders field is not
initialized by hfsplus_iget() logic.

This patch implements complete initialization of
struct hfsplus_inode_info in the hfsplus_iget() logic with
the goal to prevent likewise issues for the case of
root folder.

****---> Range-diff (Interdiff) against previous HEAD

For context, it is customary to include (along diffstat and shortlog**) a
range-diff in patchset revisions. Since I amended a previous commit (or
as some people like to call it, REBASED), it is imperative that I explain
what changed and why. Such an explanation is necessarily put in a meta-
commit, as it explains changes ACROSS commits themselves. (On a mailing
list, this would be done in the cover letter of a patch. See:

mwilczy pushed a commit to mwilczy/linux that referenced this pull request

Nov 10, 2025
This series enables the display subsystem on the StarFive JH7110 SoC.
This hardware has a complex set of dependencies that this series aims to
solve.

The dom_vout (Video Output) block is a wrapper containing the display
controller (dc8200), the clock generator (voutcrg), and the HDMI IP, all
of which are managed by a single power domain (PD_VOUT).

More importantly, the HDMI IP is a monolithic block (controller and PHY
in one register space) that has a circular dependency with voutcrg:
1. The HDMI Controller needs clocks (like sysclk, mclk) from voutcrg to
   function.
2. The voutcrg (for its pixel MUXes) needs the variable pixel clock,
   which is generated by the HDMI PHY.

This series breaks this dependency loop by modeling the hardware
correctly:
1. A new vout-subsystem wrapper driver is added. It manages the shared
   PD_VOUT power domain and top level bus clocks. It uses
   of_platform_populate() to ensure its children (hdmi_mfd, voutcrg,
   dc8200) are probed only after power is on.
2. The monolithic hdmi node is refactored into an MFD. A new hdmi-mfd
   parent driver is added, which maps the shared register space and
   creates a regmap.
3. The MFD populates two children:
   - hdmi-phy: A new PHY driver that binds to the MFD. Its only
     dependency is the xin24m reference clock. It acts as the clock
     provider for the variable pixel clock (hdmi_pclk).
   - hdmi-controller: A new DRM bridge driver. It consumes clocks from
     voutcrg and the hdmi_pclk/PHY from its sibling hdmi-phy driver.
4. The generic inno-hdmi bridge library is refactored to accept a regmap
   from a parent MFD, making this model possible.

This MFD split breaks the circular dependency, as the kernel's deferred
probe can now find a correct, linear probe order: hdmi-phy (probes
first) -> voutcrg (probes second) -> hdmi-controller (probes third).

This series provides all the necessary dt-bindings, the new drivers, the
modification to inno-hdmi, and the final device tree changes to enable
the display.

Series depends on patchsets that are not merged yet:
 - dc8200 driver [1]
 - th1520 reset (dependency of dc8200 series) [2]
 - inno-hdmi bridge [3]

I believe this is a PHY tuning issue that can be fixed in the new
phy-jh7110-inno-hdmi.c driver without changing the overall architecture.
I plan to continue debugging these modes and will submit follow up fixes
as needed.

The core architectural plumbing is sound and ready for review.

- The JH7110 does not have a centralized MAINTAINERS entry like the
  TH1520, and driver maintainership seems fragmented. I have therefore
  added a MAINTAINERS entry for the display subsystem and am willing to
  help with its maintenance.
- I am aware that the new phy-jh7110-inno-hdmi.c driver (patch 12) is a
  near duplicate of the existing phy-rockchip-inno-hdmi.c. This
  duplication is intentional and temporary for this RFC series. My goal
  is to first get feedback on the overall architecture (the vout-subsystem
  wrapper, the hdmi-mfd split, and the dual-function PHY/CLK driver).

  If this architectural approach is acceptable, I will rework the PHY
  driver for a formal v1 submission. This will involve refactoring the
  common logic from the Rockchip PHY into a generic core driver that both
  the Rockchip and this new StarFive PHY driver will use.

Many thanks to the Icenowy Zheng who developed a dc8200 driver, as well
as helped me understand how the SoC and the display pipeline works.

# Describe the purpose of this series. The information you put here
# will be used by the project maintainer to make a decision whether
# your patches should be reviewed, and in what priority order. Please be
# very detailed and link to any relevant discussions or sites that the
# maintainer can review to better understand your proposed changes. If you
# only have a single patch in your series, the contents of the cover
# letter will be appended to the "under-the-cut" portion of the patch.

# Lines starting with # will be removed from the cover letter. You can
# use them to add notes or reminders to yourself. If you want to use
# markdown headers in your cover letter, start the line with ">#".

# You can add trailers to the cover letter. Any email addresses found in
# these trailers will be added to the addresses specified/generated
# during the b4 send stage. You can also run "b4 prep --auto-to-cc" to
# auto-populate the To: and Cc: trailers based on the code being
# modified.

A sysfs reader can race with a device reset or removal, attempting to
read device state when the device is not actually present. eg:

 crash> struct net_device.state ffff9a9d21336000

state 5 is __LINK_STATE_START (0b1) and __LINK_STATE_NOCARRIER (0b100).
The device is not present, note lack of __LINK_STATE_PRESENT (0b10).

This is the same sort of panic as observed in commit 4224cfd
("net-sysfs: add check for netdevice being present to speed_show").

There are many other callers of __ethtool_get_link_ksettings() which
don't have a device presence check.

Move this check into ethtool to protect all callers.

The main reason of the issue that struct hfsplus_inode_info
has not been properly initialized for the case of root folder.
In the case of root folder, hfsplus_fill_super() calls
the hfsplus_iget() that implements only partial initialization of
struct hfsplus_inode_info and subfolders field is not
initialized by hfsplus_iget() logic.

This patch implements complete initialization of
struct hfsplus_inode_info in the hfsplus_iget() logic with
the goal to prevent likewise issues for the case of

…dfl()

[ Upstream commit f39489f ]

When getting an LLC CPU mask in the default CPU selection policy,
scx_select_cpu_dfl(), a pointer to the sched_domain is dereferenced
using rcu_read_lock() without holding rcu_read_lock(). Such an unprotected
dereference often causes the following warning and can cause an invalid
memory access in the worst case.

Therefore, protect dereference of a sched_domain pointer using a pair
of rcu_read_lock() and unlock().

Marc Kleine-Budde <mkl@pengutronix.de> says:

Similarly to how CAN FD reuses the bittiming logic of Classical CAN, CAN XL
also reuses the entirety of CAN FD features, and, on top of that, adds new
features which are specific to CAN XL.

A so-called 'mixed-mode' is intended to have (XL-tolerant) CAN FD nodes and
CAN XL nodes on one CAN segment, where the FD-controllers can talk CC/FD
and the XL-controllers can talk CC/FD/XL. This mixed-mode utilizes the
known error-signalling (ES) for sending CC/FD/XL frames. For CAN FD and CAN
XL the tranceiver delay compensation (TDC) is supported to use common CAN
and CAN-SIG transceivers.

The CANXL-only mode disables the error-signalling in the CAN XL controller.
This mode does not allow CC/FD frames to be sent but additionally offers a
CAN XL transceiver mode switching (TMS) to send CAN XL frames with up to
20Mbit/s data rate. The TMS utilizes a PWM configuration which is added to
the netlink interface.

Configured with CAN_CTRLMODE_FD and CAN_CTRLMODE_XL this leads to:

FD=0 XL=0 CC-only mode         (ES=1)
FD=1 XL=0 FD/CC mixed-mode     (ES=1)
FD=1 XL=1 XL/FD/CC mixed-mode  (ES=1)
FD=0 XL=1 XL-only mode         (ES=0, TMS optional)

Patch #1 print defined ctrlmode strings capitalized to increase the
readability and to be in line with the 'ip' tool (iproute2).

Patch #2 is a small clean-up which makes can_calc_bittiming() use
NL_SET_ERR_MSG() instead of netdev_err().

Patch #3 adds a check in can_dev_dropped_skb() to drop CAN FD frames
when CAN FD is turned off.

Patch #4 adds CAN_CTRLMODE_RESTRICTED. Note that contrary to the other
CAN_CTRL_MODE_XL_* that are introduced in the later patches, this control
mode is not specific to CAN XL. The nuance is that because this restricted
mode was only added in ISO 11898-1:2024, it is made mandatory for CAN XL
devices but optional for other protocols. This is why this patch is added
as a preparation before introducing the core CAN XL logic.

Patch #5 adds all the CAN XL features which are inherited from CAN FD: the
nominal bittiming, the data bittiming and the TDC.

Patch torvalds#6 add a new CAN_CTRLMODE_XL_TMS control mode which is specific to
CAN XL to enable the transceiver mode switching (TMS) in XL-only mode.

Patch torvalds#7 adds a check in can_dev_dropped_skb() to drop CAN CC/FD frames
when the CAN XL controller is in CAN XL-only mode. The introduced
can_dev_in_xl_only_mode() function also determines the error-signalling
configuration for the CAN XL controllers.

Patch torvalds#8 to torvalds#11 add the PWM logic for the CAN XL TMS mode.

Patch torvalds#12 to torvalds#14 add different default sample-points for standard CAN and
CAN SIG transceivers (with TDC) and CAN XL transceivers using PWM in the
CAN XL TMS mode.

Patch torvalds#15 add a dummy_can driver for netlink testing and debugging.

Patch torvalds#16 check CAN frame type (CC/FD/XL) when writing those frames to the
CAN_RAW socket and reject them if it's not supported by the CAN interface.

Patch torvalds#17 increase the resolution when printing the bitrate error and
round-up the value to 0.01% in the case the resolution would still provide
values which would lead to 0.00%.

… 'T'

When perf report with annotation for a symbol, press 's' and 'T', then exit
the annotate browser. Once annotate the same symbol, the annotate browser
will crash.

The browser.arch was required to be correctly updated when data type
feature was enabled by 'T'. Usually it was initialized by symbol__annotate2
function. If a symbol has already been correctly annotated at the first
time, it should not call the symbol__annotate2 function again, thus the
browser.arch will not get initialized. Then at the second time to show the
annotate browser, the data type needs to be displayed but the browser.arch
is empty.

[ Upstream commit 570f945 ]

Lockdep gives a splat [1] when ser_hdl_work item is executed. It is
scheduled at mac80211 workqueue via ieee80211_queue_work() and takes a
wiphy lock inside. However, this workqueue can be flushed when e.g.
closing the interface and wiphy lock is already taken in that case.

Choosing wiphy_work_queue() for SER is likely not suitable. Back on to
the global workqueue.

The test starts a workload and then opens events. If the events fail
to open, for example because of perf_event_paranoid, the gopipe of the
workload is leaked and the file descriptor leak check fails when the
test exits. To avoid this cancel the workload when opening the events
fails.

The calls are used inside the critical section when updating
the gamma mode, and thus should use the _fw variants to prevent
locks.

Fix a mkdir-induced usage count imbalance that tripped a umount_check()
BUG while unmounting the lower filesystem. Commit f046fbb
("ecryptfs: use new start_creating/start_removing APIs") added a new
dget() of the lower parent dir, in ecryptfs_mkdir(), but did not dput()
the dentry before returning from that function.

The BUG output as seen while running the eCryptfs test suite:

$ ./run_tests.sh -b 131072 -c safe,destructive -f ext4 -K -t lp-926292.sh
