Keyboard-only N×M grid window placement for macOS.

Not another halves/thirds snap tool — place any window on any rectangular span of a grid you define. Two keypresses. No mouse. No auto-tiling. No SIP.

Laptop: start with thirds (⌃⌥[ ] \). The 5×2 default shines when you have width (external / ultrawide).

30 seconds to first tile

Use the fully-qualified cask name (avoids “exists in multiple taps” if you also have a local/dev tap):

brew install --cask stefanopineda/quintile/quintile

Equivalent after tapping once:

brew tap stefanopineda/quintile
brew install --cask stefanopineda/quintile/quintile

or download Quintile.app.zip · or git clone + make run

Official homebrew/cask quintile is not available yet. Always use stefanopineda/quintile/quintile until then — bare brew install --cask quintile is ambiguous when another tap also has a quintile cask. Prior submission: homebrew-cask#274471. Details: docs/PATH_TO_HOMEBREW.md.

after install

Quintile is a menu bar app (no Dock icon).

Open it: Spotlight (⌘Space) → Quintile → Enter
Look for ⊞! / ⊞ near the clock
System Settings → Privacy & Security → Accessibility → Quintile ON
(if it already looks ON after an update: OFF then ON, then Check Again)
Click a real app window → hold Control+Option → press [ (left third)

upgrade / reinstall

brew reinstall --cask stefanopineda/quintile/quintile

clean reinstall (first-tile coach again)

A normal reinstall keeps ~/Library/Application Support/Quintile (grid profiles + whether you already finished/skipped the first-tile coach). To walk the full first-run path again:

Then: Accessibility ON → first-tile coach (“Try your first tile”) with Skip for now, not only Quick Start.

the thing most tilers don’t do

Hold Control+Option, press G, type two cell keys. The focused window fills that rectangle.

Presets when you don’t need a custom span:
