nts — a live NTS 2 show with artwork, now/next details, and station list

nts is an unofficial NTS Radio player for the terminal, written in Rust.

Requirements

  • mpv handles audio playback: brew install mpv on macOS, apt install mpv (or your distribution's equivalent) on Linux. The Homebrew formula installs it for you; cargo install does not.
  • macOS and Linux. Windows is not supported (playback control uses Unix sockets).

Install

brew install r-ohan/nts/nts

or, with Cargo, install from crates.io:

cargo install nts-radio-cli

Use

nts                          # open on NTS 1, playing
nts 2                        # open on NTS 2
nts poolside                 # open on an Infinite Mixtape by name
nts slow-focus --no-autoplay # open without starting playback

Station names are forgiving: slow-focus, Slow Focus, and the NTS API alias (100-percent-hip-hop for Low Key) all work. Inside the app, keys 1–0 jump straight to any of the ten stations.

Notes

Artwork appears in terminals with Kitty, iTerm2, or Sixel image support—such as Ghostty, iTerm2, Kitty, and WezTerm. It is intentionally omitted in text-only terminals rather than turned into an ugly raster.
