GitHub - howonlee/diluddit: Diluted mobile web reddit client (unofficial)

3 min read Original article ↗

Find it here. It's a normal mobile web app, no download required.

Note: You have to turn off 'enhanced tracking protection' or 'strict tracking protection' on the site on Firefox and Edge (respectively) because it's making CORS requests all willy-nilly. You can know Diluddit's not tracking you except insofar as Reddit is tracking you by inspecting the code, if you'd like.

Diluddit

Unofficial diluted client of reddit. By 'dilution' I mean injection of latency, see this. Browser extensions work well on your full-size boxes but on mobile the dilution by the methods I gave previously gets quite annoying, especially if you don't control the network. But if you create a simple mobile-web client for reddit while adding the latency those problems are less problematic, inasmuch as people have more control over the web proper. Much of my online time-wasting has consolidated in perhaps 4 sites, so this seems doable for reddit, which is the most apparent problem.

Overall, this is a jank but can-be-used alpha. Treat as such. I haven't implemented the usual NSFW filtering and warning stuff yet, so caveat usuario. I'm not responsible for like 5-25% of reddit being a cesspool and much of the rest being mediocrity, it's probably statistical physics's fault. Go ask a SFI peep

A lot of stuff is hardcoded to the idiosyncrasies of how I like stuff. If you want to de-hardcode it PR's are vaguely welcome-ish. In particular, I linearize all the threads you get on there with a tree traversal that keeps parents, so we get nice threads. Maybe I should do that for the orange site too

I won't add auth and posting (anything that makes me deal with CORS), tho, so don't ask. I also actually like karma being invisible forever and the subreddit view on top?t=day without options. Fork if you want to

This is definitely like, one single option in a full-featured reddit client but a lot of the point is not having features so that's probably a no go on any of the reddit clients I know of

Not an official reddit project. No affiliation with reddit in any way, shape or form whatsoever. MIT licensed. This is not a serious project, but I am actually using it, so contributions will be accepted and dealt with completely arbitrarily and in an arbitrarily procrastinatory manner

Devmode is npm start, tests are npm test, build is npm run build. Deploy is npm run deploy.
