2 min read Original article ↗

A portable, gender-neutral, open-source initiation framework with mutual aid obligation built into the protocol.

The Problem

Society reliably produces three failure modes: class, poverty, and tribalism. The institutions historically designed to counteract these have either died, been captured by the interests they were meant to oppose, or were always too culturally narrow to scale.

The conditions that produced those institutions are back. AI displacement is hardening economic inequality into something structural. The masculinity and identity crisis is real and the current answers — algorithmic tribalism, manosphere counterfeit brotherhood, endless self-optimization — make all three problems worse, not better.

There is a vacancy where the institution should be.

The Solution

Not a new institution. A protocol that lets anyone build one.

Open Ritual 1.0 is a framework for:

  • A genuine initiation experience that produces real internal change through confrontation with mortality — not ceremony, not theater
  • Mutual aid obligation that is constituted at the moment of initiation, not bolted on afterward as optional dues
  • Progressive structure where advancement reflects demonstrated internal work
  • Cross-class, cross-gender solidarity networks bound by obligation rather than shared identity or shared enemy

What This Is Not

  • Not Masonry — though it inherits that tradition's best technology
  • Not a religion
  • Not centralized — there is no governing body, no headquarters, no treasurer
  • Not owned by anyone

The One Invariant

The candidate must never know what comes next.

This is the only constraint that cannot be forked away. The secrecy of the experience is the mechanism. Everything else is open.

Origin

Developed from a reading of Gotthold Lessing's Ernst und Falk (1778) — the argument that the true work of any brotherhood is to solve the problems society itself causes. The lodge is just one expression of a permanent human need. This is another.
