Gaim 3 is a universal chat client that can connect to many different chat networks at once. It is built on libpurple 3 which means it can connect to any chat networks that libpurple 3 can connect to.
Status
Gaim 3 is currently very early in development but uses GTK 4 and will run on Linux, macOS, and Windows among other operating systems.
There are no releases at this time, but keep an eye on our Forums for more frequent updates.
Why?
As Pidgin 3’s user interface started moving towards a more chat room inspired interface, it became apparent that many people still preferred the more direct message focused user interface of Pidgin 2 and Gaim before it.
Because of that, it was decided that an additional GTK4 user interface would be created as we’re already very familiar with it and reproducing an existing user interface would be more simple than creating a new one like Pidgin 3’s.
The name Gaim was chosen to be nostalgic and honor our history, but mostly because the trademark that caused the original name change has since expired.
