Hello all,![]()
I would like to introduce my little project I have been working on for some time now. KRAKEN ROCKET BLOCKS
KRB was originally created as a toy for my children, so I could share something I love with them – a passion for rockets and space.
From the beginning, I wanted this toy to be a simple building kit made from wooden cylinders. But after some testing, I realized I lacked many woodworking tools and the space to use them. One day, I decided that 3D printing was the only viable option – and wood was abandoned.
After several prototypes, I developed a system using small magnets that allows rocket parts to connect at different angles and diameters. The flat magnet-to-magnet connections make it easy to assemble rockets quickly – and just as easily take them apart through RUD (rapid unplanned disassembly).
That’s actually the point of the kit:
Build it, launch it, break it.
Children learn that different parts have different connection strengths, and more complex or chaotic rockets are more vulnerable to Kraken strikes and total disintegration.
As a parent, I recommend children play with the kit under supervision, and that all parts are checked for damage after each session.

I want this to be a free toy for everyone, released under the CC BY-NC-ND 4.0 license – so I can maintain a bit of control over how it’s shared.
I'm very open to feedback, help, or collaboration – I just need to take it slow, so the project doesn’t grow beyond my capacity.
There are many ideas for how this toy could grow – from expansion packs like planetary bases and space stations, to mechanical components or even compatibility with wooden train tracks. (Some of these are already in development.)
Or maybe even a simple KSP mod, where you and your kids can build and launch rockets together – both in real life and in-game.
So far I published:
