Floxtop uses an AI model to understand your file content locally on your Mac. It then classifies, suggests and sorts files into meaningful folders based on available categories and their content.
Absolutely. All processing happens on your device. Your files never leave your Mac, and no data is sent to any external servers.
Yes. Floxtop is signed, notarized, and stapled by Apple. This means Apple has checked the app for security issues and confirmed it hasn't been tampered with. When you open it, macOS verifies our Apple Developer signature and allows it to run only if everything is clean.
Floxtop uses the same secure distribution method as well-known Mac apps outside the App Store. Apps that don't meet Apple's standards trigger warnings — Floxtop doesn't.
The App Store has restrictions and a high revenue cut. Distributing directly lets us ship updates faster and keep pricing fair. An App Store version is possible in the future — you can subscribe to the newsletter in the footer to be notified.

No. Floxtop works entirely offline, and all AI processing happens locally on your device.
The app only uses the internet to check for and download updates, which is a separate process and not related to how the app functions or handles your files. We don't track or analyze any data, and no one has access to your files.
If you disable automatic update checks, Floxtop won't use the internet at all.
Not yet. Floxtop currently supports only Apple Silicon Macs. If you want to be notified when Intel support is available, please email us at [email protected].
Floxtop runs on all Apple Silicon Macs. Older M1 Macs may have slightly broader file categories due to hardware limits, but everything remains private and local. Newer Macs (M2+) enjoy faster, more precise classification.
Why? M1 chips have fewer neural cores and less memory bandwidth than newer Apple Silicon, which can slightly affect how AI analyzes files.

Major upgrades or entirely new versions may require a new license, following the standard desktop app model.
