Oct 10 (Reuters) - Apple Inc Chief Executive Tim Cook onThursday defended the iPhone maker's decision to remove apolice-tracking app used by protestors in Hong Kong from its AppStore, according to a copy of the letter seen by Reuters andconfirmed by Apple.
In a message to employees, Cook said Apple made its decisionafter it received "credible information" from both Hong Kongpolice and Apple users that the app was used "maliciously totarget individual officers for violence and to victimizeindividuals and property where no police are present."
"This use put the app in violation of Hong Kong law," Cooksaid. "Similarly, widespread abuse clearly violates our AppStore guidelines barring personal harm."(Reporting by Stephen NellisEditing by Chris Reese)
