Bidirectional energy made smarter with AI
Predictive intelligence meets scalable design for seamless energy control.
The IQ Bidirectional EV Charger goes beyond standard EV charging. It enables safe, reliable two-way power flow between the EV, home, and grid—sending power from the EV to the home during outages (V2H) and exporting from the EV to the grid when rates are high (V2G). Managed through the Enphase App, it intelligently switches between modes based on site conditions and homeowner preferences—turning the EV into a safe energy-sharing solution for the home.
AC power flow between the charger and home ensures added safety, while DC power flow between the charger and EV maximizes efficiency. With integrated Black Start technology, the charger delivers uninterrupted backup even during full grid outages. Designed to ISO 15118 standards and integrated with our globally compatible microinverters, the charger works with all bidirectional EVs, all grid profiles, and all types of homes, offering a reliable, future-ready solution backed by a 10-year warranty.

Designed, tested, and built for performance
Engineered for durability and seamless interoperability. Enables quick and field-friendly installation.
Standards-based interoperability
Works with all ISO 15118-20 compliant EVs, with ongoing CharIN and OEM testing to ensure global compatibility. UL 1741 and IEEE1547 certified.
Seamless support for V2H, V2G
IQ Meter Collar functions as an islanding device to fully support both V2H and V2G applications, even when there is no home battery connected to the system.
GaN based technology
Three 3.8 kW GaN-based microinverters provide support for 200–1,000 V DC power transfer between the electric vehicle and the charger hardware.
Integrated Black Start
In case of an outage, the system instantaneously activates home backup (V2H) using the EV as a power source, maintaining electricity for essential loads.
Revenue grade metering
Meets ANSI C12.20 specifications, with revenue-grade metering on both the AC (grid) and DC (EV) sides to ensure accurate monitoring and compliance.
Easy serviceability
Designed to minimize service time through easily field-replaceable microinverters, cables, and related parts for faster, simpler maintenance.
Bidirectional intelligence for real‑time energy control
Predictive software that optimizes energy flow based on site conditions and homeowner preferences.
The AI engine adjusts charge and discharge to maximize savings while meeting the homeowner’s preferred EV battery level at unplug time. It tracks real-time tariffs, solar production and home consumption forecasts, and grid status to manage charging and discharging behavior.
Adaptive power flow with AI‐based control
The Enphase App optimizes charging, backup, and export using intuitive software control.

FAQs
In AC bidirectional charging, power is exchanged over the AC, with bidirectional power conversion handled inside the vehicle. In contrast, DC bidirectional charging uses a dedicated DC interface, with power electronics outside the vehicle and as part of the charger to manage the conversion. The choice between AC and DC impacts vehicle complexity, charger complexity, installation costs, reliability, and regulatory compliance—making it a critical design decision for both EV manufacturers and energy system providers.
Yes. The IQ EV Charger 2, available in the second half of 2025, will support AC bidirectional functionality. The IQ Bidirectional EV Charger, launching in 2026, will support DC bidirectional functionality.
Yes. It can integrate with existing Enphase Energy Systems, unlocking home backup, smart charging, and grid services—depending on the site configuration and components present.
The charger is compatible only with EVs that are ISO 15118-compliant and support bidirectional power flow. It will not enable backup or export modes with non-bidirectional EVs, but standard, high-power DC charging will still function for compatible EVs.
No. The IQ Bidirectional EV Charger can provide backup and export functions without a home battery when used with the IQ Meter Collar. However, pairing with an IQ Battery enables full system flexibility and backup even when the EV is not plugged in.
The IQ Bidirectional EV Charger is expected to launch in 2026.
