I haven't had any issues with the update. You might try a PRAM reset.
I just installed the update this morning and, for the first time in years, my laptop has been constantly freezing to the point where I have to manually restart it.
MacBook Pro, OS X Mavericks (10.9.2)

Have you checked the system log in Console.app for messages about hang, crash, fail, restart etc?

I have been experiencing the same problem since the update. I had to manually reboot my mac after a long long time. Have done it around 10 times in last 2 days.
Any suggestions or advise on what might be the problem??

Same thing has been happening to me and it's really annoying. I've tried reformatting and restoring my hard drive but it didn't help. Tried to perform a hardware test but that froze as well.
I suspect it's an incompatibility problem and would appreciate it if Apple would fix it soon. If anyone had the same problem and fixed it somehow i'd appreciate any tips.
