Discord’s public Trending Games chart for August 28–September 3, 2026 is not a most-played list. It is a Thursday discovery page that ranks what people on Discord are newly playing, streaming, and joining around. This week that means a Call of Duty open beta still tagged “in pre-release,” a $7.99 physics fishing game that refuses to leave, and a brand-new single-player Star Wars tactics launch sitting above Roblox.
The taste the chart is capturing: scheduled AAA, chaotic co-op, and catalog games that went on sale. It is not capturing “what Discord as a whole plays most.”

What Discord is actually ranking
Discord introduced Trending Games in its June 25, 2026 changelog: a page “updated every Thursday with what’s been popular across all of Discord, including both single-player and multiplayer games.” Archives live at dated URLs such as the week of August 27. Game blurbs and categories are credited to IGDB. Discord does not publish the ranking formula.
What the page does show, and what we can treat as Discord-reported:

Play and stream counts only include activity Discord can see. That is opt-in. Discord’s Activity Sharing FAQ says the desktop app can show detectable PC games, Xbox and PlayStation titles via console connections, and richer status when a game supports Rich Presence through the Social SDK. Anyone who hides activity, plays on a platform Discord does not detect, or never opens the desktop app is invisible to this chart.
The June changelog also upgraded Game Profile pages: click a game name on someone’s status and you get platforms, reviews, Discord popularity, and a link to the official server. Trending Games is that same detection graph, sorted for discovery.

Three things jump out before any marketing narrative:
- Server size does not equal rank. Star Wars Zero Company is #3 with 6K members. Once Human has 797K and sits at #6. The chart is weighting recency and change, not the biggest Discord.
- Two Rockstar games share one official server. GTA V Enhanced and Red Dead Redemption 2 both deep-link to Rockstar Games. Their member and online counts are the same community, counted twice as game rows.
- Roblox is a platform row. Discord does not pin a single official Roblox server here. It offers “Find Servers” across thousands of listings, which matches how Roblox actually lives on Discord: many game communities, including titles now using Discord’s Social SDK on Roblox.
The calendar ate the top of the chart
Modern Warfare 4 — an open beta wearing a launch costume
Infinity Ward’s follow-up to Modern Warfare III is still scheduled for October 23, 2026 on current-gen consoles, PC (Battle.net, Steam, Xbox on PC), and Nintendo Switch 2. Discord’s own card still says in pre-release. The reason it is #1 this week is the second beta weekend: Activision’s blog put Weekend Two (open beta) at August 28–September 1, open to all platforms including Switch 2, after a pre-order early-access weekend August 21–25.
That is this entire chart week. Last week MW4 was already on the list at #4. This week it has a 2w badge and the #1 slot. Discord users did not suddenly “discover Call of Duty.” They installed the open beta, turned on activity, and piled into Call of Duty’s official Discord (191K members on the card).
Xbox Wire’s campaign briefing matches Discord’s blurb: a Korea-set campaign with dual perspectives (Private Park and Captain Price), 6v6, large-scale vehicle maps, Kill Block, and a DMZ extraction mode. None of that had to ship for the chart. A detectable multiplayer beta is enough.
Star Wars Zero Company — single-player still trends
EA and Bit Reactor, with Lucasfilm Games, called the game out now on August 28 after an August 27 launch on PC (EA app, Steam, Epic), PS5, and Xbox Series. Discord’s “released 8d ago” badge on a September 4 capture is consistent with that date.
The product is a single-player turn-based tactics story: Hawks, Zero Company, Clone Wars, Infinite Coil. It does not need LFG to rank. People finish a mission, hop into voice, and Discord still counts the play. The official EA Star Wars server on the card is only 6K members. That is the cleanest proof on this week’s list that Trending Games is not “biggest Discord wins.”
NBA 2K27 — a franchise server waiting for tip-off
2K’s newsroom set worldwide launch at September 4, 2026 on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, Steam, and Switch 2, with Deluxe/Ultra early access from August 26 at 9:00 a.m. PT. 2K Support’s regional table puts standard US (PDT) unlock at 9:00 p.m. September 3. Discord’s “Released today” chip on the Aug 28–Sep 3 chart is that window.
The NBA 2K server already shows 405K members. That is last year’s community plus this year’s cover. Visual Concepts did not have to grow a Discord from zero. Season 1 (Victor Wembanyama, The City, MyTEAM) started with early access, so the “new game” row is also a seasonal MMO-sports loop that lives in Discord LFG the way it always has.
How to Fish is last week’s #1 that did not die
Dazed Games shipped How to Fish on Steam on August 20, 2026: a 1–4 player physics fishing sim, $7.99, Overwhelmingly Positive (95% of 18,309 English reviews on the store page when we checked). The Steam description is the whole pitch: crash a boat, learn how to fish, kill fish, sell fish, fight bosses, gamble the take.
On last week’s chart (Aug 21–27) it was #1, tagged New / Released Aug 20, 46K members. This week it is #2 with plays still +31% and streams only +3%.
Read that split: the clip era is cooling, the friend-group era is not. Streams flatten when every Discord already saw the exploding-fish video. Plays keep rising when four people in a voice channel buy a $8 game. That is Discord taste in one row. It is the same physics-co-op pattern that put PEAK at #1 two weeks earlier on the August 20 archive.
Once Human is the actual spike
+167% plays and +93% streams is the loudest growth on the page. The game is Starry Studio / NetEase’s free-to-play survival MMO. Two dated events sit under that bar:
- Console launch. NetEase and Starry announced PS5 and Xbox Series X|S availability, with the official FAQ locking August 25, 11:00 a.m. PT, full cross-play/cross-progression with PC and mobile, and Game Pass perks on Xbox. Discord can count those sessions when players share Xbox or PlayStation activity.
- Version 3.0.5. Starry’s Steam announcement scheduled the September 2 patch (storage search, RaidZone portable crafting, fashion dye work, custom-server events). Console week plus a QoL patch is a classic “everyone logs back in and the overlay lights up” pattern.
The official Once Human server on the capture: 155,246 online inside a 797K member community. That is a live MMO Discord, not a launch-day LFG channel. The row is this week’s evidence that Discord’s shooter reputation is incomplete. Survival-crafting still moves the graph when a platform opens.
Rockstar on sale is still a Discord genre
Steam’s US storefront, queried September 4, 2026 via the appdetails API:
ELDEN RING on Steam was full price ($59.99) the same day. The Rockstar pair is a sale story. The Elden Ring pair (see below) is a new-SKU story.
GTA V Enhanced is the current-gen / modern-PC build. Rockstar documents a one-time Legacy → Enhanced migration for Story Mode on PC; Steam lists the Enhanced app as shipping March 4, 2025. A 56% discount on that SKU still fills Discord voice. RDR2, from 2019, outpaced it on both plays and streams this week. Story-rich single-player with a friends list attached still trends when the sticker price drops to $15.
Both rows point at the same Rockstar Games server (914K members, 108,552 online in the capture). The chart is double-counting one community as two games. That is honest about play. It is messy if you treat “members” as a ranking input.
The floor: Roblox, CS2, a new Elden Ring SKU
Roblox (+2% / +4%). Always on. Discord’s own integrations post treats Roblox experiences as first-class Social SDK citizens. A 2% play tick would not put a mid-size indie on this list. It puts Roblox here because the base is enormous and the overlay is how a lot of those players already talk.
Counter-Strike 2 (+2% / +2%). Valve’s free tactical shooter, the Steam app that replaced CS:GO in 2023, with 429K members on the Counter-Strike Discord in Discord’s blurb. Same story as Roblox: the floor of the chart is “games Discord already is.” A +2% is weather. It is not a launch.
ELDEN RING (+35% / +30%). FromSoftware / Bandai Namco’s 2022 RPG. The timing that is dated: ELDEN RING Tarnished Edition landed on Nintendo Switch 2 on August 28, 2026 — day one of this chart week — bundling the base game, Shadow of the Erdtree, and Torrent cosmetics. Discord still labels the row ELDEN RING, not the SKU name. Switch 2 play that reports through Nintendo/Discord connections would show up as the parent title. Bandai Namco’s page cites over 28 million copies of the original. A new platform SKU on a 547K-member official server is enough to make a four-year-old Game of the Year look “trending.”
What fell off from last week
Only two titles survived from Aug 21–27 into this week: How to Fish and Modern Warfare 4.

Last week’s chart was spike physics: WARDOGS at +5,774% plays, Bodycam at +231%, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 at +259%. Those percentage rockets fall off the moment the comparison week includes the spike. This week’s chart is a release-and-sale calendar with one leftover viral indie. Fortnite and VALORANT vanishing from the top 10 does not mean they emptied. It means their week-over-week deltas lost to betas, a sports launch, a console MMO, and a Rockstar discount.
Battlefield 6 dropping off is the other tell. Two weeks ago it was still a chart regular. This week’s FPS oxygen went to the Modern Warfare 4 beta. Discord’s other game-discovery machine — Quests / Play Quest+ — is a separate product. It can pay people to play a match. Trending Games only counts the ones who already did.
What this week says about player taste
Strip the badges and the list is four appetites sharing one overlay:
- Show up for the scheduled event. MW4 open beta, 2K launch week, Zero Company week-one, Tarnished Edition on Switch 2. Discord is where those calendars get a voice channel.
- Buy the $8 game your call is already playing. How to Fish holding #2 with plays up and streams flat is the anti-AAA tell. Physics + four seats + a joke Steam page still beats a lot of $70 marketing.
- Log into the MMO when a new platform opens. Once Human’s +167% is console + patch, not a new IP.
- Reinstall the catalog when Steam is 50–75% off. GTA Enhanced and RDR2 are not “new taste.” They are price-elastic taste that Discord is unusually good at seeing, because those sessions happen with friends in the same server.
The chart also says what Discord users are not obsessed with this week, at least not enough to outrun a beta: live-service heroes (VALORANT), the forever battle royale (Fortnite), last week’s extraction/tactical spikes (WARDOGS, Bodycam). Those audiences did not leave Discord. They lost the ranking.
How to read it without fooling yourself
- Trending ≠ most played. +2% on CS2 and +167% on Once Human are not the same kind of number. Discord is highlighting change and newness.
- Pre-release can outrank a launch. MW4 is not out until October 23 and still took #1. Betas are first-class on this page.
- Single-player counts. Zero Company and RDR2 are not LFG products. Activity status does not care.
- Official-server members are a vanity metric on this page. 6K can beat 797K.
- Privacy settings hide people. Activity Sharing is off for anyone who wants it off. Console detection needs a linked Xbox or PlayStation account. The chart is the visible graph.
- Metadata is IGDB’s, ranks are Discord’s. If a category says “Sports #1,” that is a Discord/IGDB label on this page, not ESPN.

How often does Discord update Trending Games?
Every Thursday, per the June 25, 2026 changelog. The live page is discord.com/trending-games. Prior weeks keep a dated URL.
Does “Plays +31%” mean 31% of Discord is playing that game?
No. It is a week-over-week change in detected plays for that title, among people whose activity Discord can see. Discord has not published the denominator.
Because Discord ranks detected play and streams, not party size. The June changelog explicitly includes single-player games. Star Wars Zero Company at #3 with 6K server members is the example.
Why do GTA V Enhanced and Red Dead Redemption 2 show the same member count?
Both cards link the Rockstar Games Discord. Members and online are server stats, reused on each game row.
Is this the same as Discord Quests?
No. Trending Games is a public popularity chart. Quests (including Play Quest+) are an opt-in rewarded-ad format. They can overlap in the app. They are not the same ranking.
Can I stop my games appearing in this data?
You cannot pull yourself off a completed weekly aggregate, but you can stop sharing going forward. Discord’s FAQ: turn off activity sharing globally, per server, or per game under Registered Games. Console games also have connection-level toggles.
