Earlier this year, we shared an update on our renewed focus for VR and Horizon. We are separating the two platforms so each can grow with greater focus, and the Horizon Worlds platform will become a mobile-only experience. This separation will extend across our ecosystem, including our mobile app. To support this vision, we are making the following changes to streamline your Quest experience throughout 2026.

  • Meta Horizon Worlds: By March 31, 2026, Horizon Worlds and Events will no longer appear in the Store on Quest. Also, Horizon Central, Events Arena, Kaiju, and Bobber Bay worlds will no longer be available in VR. You can still jump into your other favorite worlds in VR until June 15, 2026, after which the Horizon Worlds app will be removed from Quest, and Worlds will no longer be available in VR. After June 15, you can jump into all your favorite mobile-optimized worlds on the Meta Horizon mobile app.
  • Meta Horizon Hyperscape Capture (Beta): By March 24, 2026, viewing Hyperscape captures is moving out of Horizon Worlds. Your existing captures will remain viewable within the Hyperscape Capture (Beta) app and the companion Preview app, which are available in your Quest app library. You can continue capturing new Hyperscapes, but sharing, inviting, and co-experiencing Hyperscapes with others will no longer be supported.
  • Meta Horizon Plus (MH+) Perks: By March 31, 2026, Horizon-specific perks — including Meta Credits, Digital Clothing, Avatars and In-World Purchases — will be removed from the subscription. Your core MH+ gaming benefits and monthly games will not be affected.

We continue to invest in making your Quest experience better — recent updates have brought new features like Surface Keyboard and Touchpad, customizable app and window positioning, and we're continuing to roll out Navigator, our modernized interface, to more users.

Overall this is great news. Well done!!

Why? So many people enjoy the VR experience in Worlds. I don't know anyone that is interested in playing on mobile.

What — this is terrible news!! You obviously are not playing anything in Worlds. Kaiju Evolution has so many people playing it, that I, for the life of me, cannot understand how they cannot create a business model around it. Terrible, absolutely terrible news from Meta.

Meta was single-handedly the best and worst thing for consumer VR. They made it affordable for the masses, tried marketing it as a kid's toy, and then gave up. They never figured out how to run a successful game platform. I'm surprised they didn't partner with Microsoft to re-release Windows Phone OS and move Worlds to a Windows Phone thing.

On the plus side, there are certain KE players that invested their life into cheating to put 3 accounts on the top 10 leaderboard. I wonder how they will cope with the loss of their meaning for existence.

Can we still build worlds and clothes after June 15th for the mobile only version ?

This is terrible for the countless people whom have a safe space within VR worlds. Although I know many are happy about the move off headsets, and the countless bugs Worlds in VR has but I am not sure getting rid of the software entirely off headsets is the best move. It should be available should users want to download and keep a vr version on their headsets from the store. This especially effecting those who cannot socialise outside their home, whom have found their community of people they can trust and confide, even learn and gain confidence. It was and still is such a positive thing to see. Even for builders spending hours creating VR worlds/games and clothing. Again shows Meta is more interested in money over inclusion and community. Frankly I just want hardware that doesnt crash every 20 minutes and be able to enjoy what I and others have created.

Personally I think its terrible i don't even play any of the world's on my phone. Due to the fact that they crash every 20 minute and honestly, the whole reason I got that headset was to be able to play the games and worlds on there. However, there aren't many good downloadable apps or a lot of them cost money. So taking away the world to on the headset, kind of defeats the whole purpose... very stupid

Find whoever you hang out with in VR worlds and find a suitable world in VRChat to meet, this is what im transitioning to now. Meta dont make things better.

Man... for all of us who knew about all the good worlds that are fun for adults (where the screaming kids simply arent allowed at all) this is sad news.

The Quest Store should've never displayed every single individual Horizon World as if they were games, and HorizonOS will be better without the feed... but those could've been corrected without entirely killing off Worlds in VR.

Worlds should be one (optional) app in our list of apps. No more and no less.

The mobile version of the meta horizons world games are terrible, they have to many issues, crash's and glitches.

    • ALionlikeMane's avatar

Yeah, I've tried to use the mobile version. It's extremely laggy at best. And I've noticed that if the world has specialized controls (like Dream Leaper or Survive) then you can't count on the controls to generate properly.

    • Maccyb123's avatar

Simon_Peter True, it's not officially in my region, I wasn't really interested in Worlds anyway, but I used a VPN to try the mobile version out of curiosity, it's definitely very bad. I think they should get rid of it totally. Just concentrate on selling the Quest as a dedicated games platform and discard the fluff.

  • ChristopherAZ's avatar

This isn't fair at all. It gives me a bad taste in my mouth for Meta in general. I really feel like I want to sell my oculus and go to a different system. They should've kept both mobile and VR. VR experience is 10 times better and that is what is really disappointing that they would actually remove that

    • Chronic.Hippy420's avatar

You said it! And at this point, it's just become a device for business meetings, and they're taking away a lot of opportunities for people to connect socially. And others who we're creating things, it took away a platform for them to get their art out there as well as opportunities for them to make money.

      • AmberLou24's avatar

I feel like you have hit a main point. They want to monopolize the income and the ability to make money. This can definitely do that. I hate it for all of those who have taken time to learn new ways to create and now that is just gone... VRChat is just not the same. I don't understand why this is the move if not for money. You can't have a "world" on a phone. The sense of community they are ripping away from people...or making them pivot or try to find other things...is really sad! There is no chance the "mobile version" lasts or even has an uptick of users. I would love to see the data that supported this move and I would love to see the user data POST this move.

    • Maccyb123's avatar

Unfortunately ChristopherAZ Nobody else has attempted to do what Meta did with Worlds idea. So you won't find the experience anywhere else in VR. It's very unfortunate but they decided to concentrate on the headset being a games platform rather than a social interaction device. It's a pity but was always going to happen in order to concentrate on gaming. At least there is mobile at the moment, though many are saying it's not a great experience. Honestly, I don't think mobile Worlds will be around for very long either. It's not nice for people who are invested in it, but it's all about financial viability I suppose. Very disappointing but life goes on.

I'm kinda pissed off about it. Multi user Hyperscape Capture is likely the greatest technology you have and your just going to discontinue it?? What the hell. It's the holodeck! Not to mention Worlds crashes on a flagship Google Pixel 10 after 2 minutes. Who the hell is using worlds on their phone other than little kids? And who is making these garbage decisions?

  • RayRift's avatar

At least give us some sort of export option to download our files and import them into VR Chat. It's like my whole career at creating VR gaussian splats never got a chance!
