What happens to GPT-5.6 Sol pricing after the three-month reduction ends?

It is logical to assume the price will revert to the standard Sol pricing up to now. The possibility is left open for the discount to continue past the stated three months.
However, in the interim, there not just three months for OpenAI to find “efficiencies” such as reduced the price of Terra and Luna models, but we also might be talking about the next released AI model completely by November.
Varying pricing on API is a bit of annoyance, because with gpt-5.6 family, this is the first time that OpenAI has changed the price of a particular model ID since 2022, and also has abandoned a dated model concept, and thus, if you had a pricing estimation calculator, it has to be edited to keep up, documentation loses historic pricing with these immediate commits of undated replacement pricing tables, and now your application has to anticipate dynamic future pricing.

Regarding price drops being an annoyance:
If it’s not too much to ask, you can forward your 5.6-Sol usage to a proxy API where I charge you the original price and donate the margin back to this community in the form of swag or maybe community hackathon prizes.

In three months there will likely be a new model release which would likely margin the discounted price. Discounting is only slightly minimizing revenue. I doubt a 20% is going on the books as a “loss”. Point is, in three months there’s a good chance the 20% remains?

Terrible! Why not just increase the normal plan quota by 20%? It clearly feels like they want us to burn through the subscription limit and then pay extra for more credits. Really disappointing — I’m honestly close to switching to another AI.
