The Code Shackle (tm) is the world's first USB-attached watchdog that proves every line of open-source code was typed by a warm, fragile human hand.
The Problem
Open source has a silent scandal.
In this new artificial intelligence based world, open source developers everywhere are quietly using AI-based coding assistants to write open-source code while publicly denouncing machine-generated code contributions to their projects.
The Hypocrisy
- Maintainers reject PRs flagged as "AI-generated".
- Contributors merge in machine-written code under their own names.
- Nobody can tell the difference — until now.
The Fallout
- Trust in the open source community erodes.
- License and attribution claims become meaningless.
- Humans lose jobs to the very tools they publicly denounce.
The Solution
How the Code Shackle (tm) works
Through a deep research and analysis project, we developed a hardware root of trust for humanity. Three simple steps keep every commit honest.
1
Attach
A USB-attached watchdog shackle is securely fitted to the leg of the developer in question. It cannot be removed without a maintainer-approved key.
2
Verify
The developer must periodically explain what they are doing in code to the device, and solve multiple captchas counting busses and other transportation vehicles.
3
Comply
If the developer fails to solve the captchas rapidly enough or explain the generated code, a mild electrical shock is delivered to the developer in question.

Reviews
What maintainers are saying
"Our contributors finally write their own code. The occasional zap is a small price for pristine git history."
— Core maintainer, major CI framework
"I used to paste from an assistant and pretend. Now I count busses for a living. I have never felt more human."
— Anonymous contributor, Node ecosystem
"The captcha pace makes standup meetings feel like a vacation."
