AI-powered molecular modeling is rapidly advancing, with the clear potential to revolutionize medicine by making biology programmable, digitizing experiments, and dramatically speeding up the drug development process. However, as these powerful tools emerge, they are becoming increasingly closed off. This trend severely limits their impact on science and, most importantly, on patients.

As researchers, we have seen firsthand the transformative power of open science. Our models, Boltz-1, Boltz-2 and BoltzGen, have already been used by over a hundred thousand scientists in both academia and industry and form the foundation for countless pipelines, agents, and platforms. Yet, achieving the true potential of this technology requires more than just building the best open models. There are essential components—like creating robust products and infrastructure—that academia is not equipped to handle, demanding the focused resources and interdisciplinary talent of a frontier technology company.

This is why we founded Boltz PBC, a Public Benefit Corporation. Our mission is clear: to advance the frontier of AI capabilities in biology through open science and make them universally accessible to every scientist working towards a healthier, more sustainable future.

Today, we are excited to announce some major steps in this direction: the unveiling of our new small-molecule and protein design agents, the launch of Boltz Lab, our seed round, and the announcement of a partnership with Pfizer.

Agents — When we released our models, we saw scientists across the industry and academia start building agentic workflows linking our new models to tackle more complex tasks like de-novo protein design and small-molecule hit discovery. While this has spurred a lot of innovative ideas and research, building these agents is challenging. Small differences can have a large impact on performance. Therefore, we have decided to carefully build the next generation of agents that more deeply leverage our models and research team to drive significant improvements. We plan to thoroughly validate each agent across a variety of tasks and offer them as effective solutions ready to be deployed for everyone. Today, we are releasing on our platform the first version of our agents for small-molecule and protein design that we have been experimentally validating with several collaborators and sharing some great initial results!

Boltz Lab — We're launching a preview of Boltz Lab, our platform, as the first step toward our product vision: a way for scientists to use our latest models and agents while removing the biggest adoption bottlenecks: compute cost, scalable infrastructure, and intuitive, collaborative interfaces. Because agents perform better when they can evaluate more designs at inference (at the expense of heavy compute), we've focused on model optimization to offer generous free tiers and lower costs than running open-source models yourself. We've also built robust backend infrastructure so results arrive in hours rather than weeks, without users taking on implementation or maintenance burden. We've designed the platform around real biology and chemistry workflows—not just model execution. Finally, we pair this with clear security and IP terms: users own their outputs, their data stays secure, and we don't train on customer data. We are still early in this journey, but given very positive initial feedback, we decided to release Boltz Lab in beta. Sign up and start integrating it now; help us shape the future digital lab.

Seed round – All of this would not have been possible without first assembling an exceptional team. Continuing to support this team and our mission will require significant expertise and capital. We are happy to announce that we have received the backing of Zetta, Amplify, a16z, and strategic angels, including Clement Delangue (CEO of Hugging Face), Factorial Capital, and Obvious Ventures with a $28M seed round.

New partnerships — Today we are also announcing a multi-year partnership with Pfizer to put Boltz Lab and its agents in the hands of all their scientists. We are also going to work together to leverage Pfizer's data to create new state-of-the-art foundation models. Beyond Pfizer, over the past few months, we have already been able to put the new agents and platform in the hands of chemists and biologists across several other academic labs and companies. This has already shown that the platform can help teams tackle challenging targets in new ways across diverse small-molecule and protein design projects.
