Effective immediately, Tesla is uncharacteristically offering a discount of $3,750 on all new inventory delivered through the rest of the year.
The discount will be applied manually by Tesla sales advisors at the time of purchase for all vehicles delivered between December 1 and December 31 of 2022 — regardless of the initial order date.
It’s unlikely Tesla will offer a similar promotion again, for good reason: beginning on January 1, 2023 much of Tesla’s lineup will qualify for a renewed $7,500 federal tax credit at the point of sale.
Regardless, we have confirmed that all new Tesla’s delivered in December are eligible — even Model 3 Performance, which would be over the $55,000 sedan MSRP limit to qualify for the tax credit next year.
Model S and Model X, which won’t qualify for the new tax credit, are also purportedly included as part of Tesla’s promotion.

Therefore, configurator and new inventory pricing remain the same and aren’t inclusive of the additional $3,750 discount.
We would presume that Tesla’s advisors can offer the discount at time of delivery on all new Tesla vehicles in an effort to avoid confusion surrounding the new $7,500 tax credit, which has many buyers strategically postponing delivery.
In fact, that’s likely to be the main motivation for the discount: consumers waiting for the tax credit to become effective has the potential to delay purchases making December a stagnated sales month and bringing down sales for the quarter.
It remains to be seen whether $3,750 is enough to compensate for a $7,500 incentive that buyers of most Model 3 and Model Y configurations will receive next month, but offering the prospective adjustment on all of Tesla’s inventory which has seen numerous price increases throughout the past two years is a smart if not necessary move.
