We believe that the most helpful AI assistant is one that’s personal to you, and understands your preferences and past conversations. But if you’re curious to try a different option, starting over with an assistant that doesn’t know you can feel daunting.
That’s why we’re introducing new, easy-to-use switching tools for all consumer accounts — allowing you to easily bring your memories, context and chat history from other AI apps directly into Gemini. 1
Teach Gemini what matters
Starting to roll out today, our new memory import feature can easily bring an understanding of your key preferences, relationships, and personal context directly into Gemini. Once you import these memories, Gemini will understand the same key facts you’ve shared with other apps, like your interests, your sibling’s name, or where you grew up. Instead of starting over from scratch, you can quickly get Gemini up to speed on what matters most to you.
To bring your memory from other AI apps to Gemini, just head to your Settings and select the new import option. You’ll get a suggested prompt to copy and paste into your current AI app. Once your other app generates a summary of your preferences, simply copy that response and paste it back into Gemini. Gemini will instantly analyze the information and securely save those details to your Gemini context, ready to be used in your next chat.
Bring your full chat history
Personal Intelligence in Gemini delivers a new level of helpfulness by including relevant insights from your Gmail, Photos, Search history and past Gemini chats in its responses - when you've granted access to those apps. This extends beyond key facts; it might include details from a prior conversation where you compared hotels for an upcoming trip to Barcelona, helping Gemini build a seamless, personalized itinerary right around the neighborhood you ultimately chose. That’s why in addition to memory import, we're introducing the ability to import your full chat history, too. To reflect this evolution, we’re also renaming our “past chats” feature to “memory,” a change you’ll see rolling out in the app over the next few weeks.
You can simply upload a ZIP file of your chat history from other AI providers and seamlessly pick up right where you left off. You can search your past conversation threads and continue building on them right inside Gemini.
Making the switch to Gemini is fast, easy and secure. Memory and chat history imports are starting to roll out today to your Settings page.
Done. Just one step more.
