Lens Sim now has its own Discord server:
Hi, and welcome to the Lens Sim Forum!
Do you have questions before purchasing, want to report a bug or need general help? Please go to the sales page and send me a direct message there. I would like to dedicate this page to future improvements and discussions about the current state of the addon.
Salespage: https://blendermarket.com/products/lens-sim
I think there are room for improvements on this addon, like adding more parameters for better controls, extra features, more lenses etc. I did discover a lot during the initial development, feedback from beta testers has also helped a lot with discovering missing features and general improvements. Having a broader range of people using this addon will shine light on different aspects of the current state of the addon, feedback is key to improvement, so if you have something on your mind feel free to share it here.
For me it’s quite straightforward to implement a lens. My main issue is finding lenses with a unique design and that’s in the limits of my addon. Aspheres and 15+ lens elements is not supported. Also, it’s hard to find the data table to modern lenses, it seems like they stopped making and publishing patents when replicating lenses became too hard.
A great source for finding lens patents:

Hello~ I wonder where is the purchase link?
Heinzelnisse (Heinzelnisse) 3
Hi! I’m just preparing for the release, Lens SIm will be out this week on time for the Black Friday sale. I’ll post the link in the intro text once its out ![]()
Ben716 (Ben Armstrong) 4
Hi, does this work with other cycles versions, such as K-cycles? The addon looks really nice! Looking forward to trying it out
Heinzelnisse (Heinzelnisse) 5
Thanks! I don’t know how K-Cycles works. I’m only using native Cycles nodes and the ray portal material. So if that’s supported I don’t see a reason why it won’t work
But I don’t have a way to verify it.

I took the liberty of adding your YouTube video to your top post - it’s truly impressive work, and I’ll post it on BlenderNation too ![]()

reading your notice on BlenderMarket about the rendering speed, I think that it could be useful to give some rough estimation about the differences…I think that the best way could be to show some comparison example where the future customers can see both visual differences and render time differences and also a rough estimation, something like “you could have a difference about 3% to 8% on rendertime”.
Another thing: you wrote " Be sure to read the Documentation section and Tutorials before buying and for a full breakdown of the system and its caveats." but I can’t find the documentation page. Am I blind? ![]()
YES: I’m blind. I found it… sorry

@saikafu
Thanks! I remember seeing your renders with the Jackimorphic Camera Pack, looks great as always!
@bartv
Thanks! That’s awesome ![]()
@marcatore
No worries! The documentation section should answer all you need to know ![]()
(added a hyperlink to the “Documentation” word for convenience)

Thank you very much.
Actually the documentation is really well done and everything is explanined very wel.
Ah…I’ve forgot to say that you did a great job.
Heinzelnisse (Heinzelnisse) 11
Thanks!
I’m glad you find it helpful. I wanted to document it properly so that people will get a good expectation of the product their buying.

Are the black friday prices already applied or will there be still a discount?
Heinzelnisse (Heinzelnisse) 13
Hi, the black Friday sales has not started.
According to the info I have gotten from Blender Market it will happen today, I just don’t know the specific time it will go live.
I think it will be quite noticeable with some sort of banner and a “30%” off marking on the product. I don’t know the specifics here but my addon is marked for the sale ![]()

Great addon! Thanks!
I have a question, is it a bug that I can’t move the camera closer when I lock the camera to the view and move the viewpoint?
Thanks!
The addon is using a orthographic camera to work, if you press this button it will be converted back to a standard blender camera representing the Lens Sim setup as closely as possible:

That should enable moving the camera as normal. To enable the lens setup again just press the button again. Hopefully that will work ![]()

Impressive add-on, compliments for the product.
adana_xxx (Kazuya Ohyanagi) 17
Oh, ok! Thank you so much!
Heinzelnisse (Heinzelnisse) 18
@pafurijaz
Thanks!
@adana_xxx
No problem!

Amazing work on this addon! This adds so much more functionality to blender. I could see this being used even for 2d graphics and animation just for its photo realistic lens effects.
I don’t know if it is possible, but I would love the feature to be able to have a range in focus instead of a single point. I know this isn’t technically realistic, but for some shots I want an entire object perfectly in focus and then everything else can blur into bokeh.

I purchased the add-on for Blender, but in the past I had tried to do something to simulate the lenses, unfortunately I never managed to get anything decent, always rendering problems, the portal you use I don’t know how to use it, however I also visited the optics site, and I saw that there is a huge database of all types of optics, I didn’t understand anything, I hope to be able to interpret something in the future.
Here my first test with Lens Sim.
