Alcoholics Anonymous
Affectionately known as the “Big Book,” this is A.A.’s foundational text, written by early members who learned to stay sober by helping each other. Their experiences were recorded in this book, which became the basis for A.A. as we know it today. It remains the primary source of A.A. principles, and most members get a copy early in their recovery to learn directly from the original teachings.

Twelve Steps & Twelve Traditions
Bill W., co-founder of Alcoholics Anonymous, originally wrote these essays on A.A.’s Twelve Steps and Twelve Traditions for the Grapevine, A.A.’s monthly magazine. These writings provide deeper insights into the Twelve Steps for individual recovery and the Twelve Traditions for group unity. They have become an essential resource for understanding both personal recovery and how A.A. functions as a whole.

We are average Americans. All sections of this country and many of its occupations are represented, as well as many political, economic, social, and religious backgrounds. We are people who normally would not mix. But there exists among us a fellowship, a friendliness, and an understanding which is indescribably wonderful... The tremendous fact for every one of us is that we have discovered a common solution. We have a way out on which we can absolutely agree, and upon which we can join in brotherly and harmonious action — "There is a Solution," ch. 2, pg. 17
