Fitbit Charge HR The heart-rate monitoring version of Fitbit's new fitness tracker, the Charge HR, is now shipping. It has all the same stuff as other Fitbits—all day activity and sleep tracking, wireless syncing, and a small display—plus continuous heart-rate monitoring for better calorie expenditure and exercise intensity estimates. Slightly wider in shape than the Charge, it has a watch-like clasp and costs $150.

LAS VEGAS, NEVADA---We're over the hump here at CES, having completed two days worth of scouting new products in the expo hall. Sure, there's always a selection of silly and ridiculous items on display, but there are of course scores of truly genius innovations.

A few smart home devices caught our attention Wednesday. There's a next-generation bathroom scale, some handsome lighting fixtures with speakers hidden inside, and a ceiling fan packed with sensors that automatically adjusts the fierceness of its artificial winds. A new ultra-light DSLR from a photo industry heavyweight made the cut today, as did a couple of wearables bands made especially for sports. Oh yes, and curved smartphones are back, this time with some serious firepower. Enjoy this selection of gems from CES.
