Hugh MacLeod (gapingvoid) is not only a dear friend but a gifted artist who can bring together the worlds of technology, motivation and satire.
His artwork makes me smile and it makes me think.
When I thought about the future of business, I pictured it beyond words on a page, I hoped to bring together his art with the art of storytelling.
I couldn’t think of anyone other than Hugh to visualize What's the Future of Business (WTF). What follows is the first in a series of posts that will share the stories behind each piece of art from the #WTF gallery, "17 Cartoons That Will Change Your Business." I hope you are inspired by his work the same way I am. Enjoy.
Cartoon 1:
This stuff is hard. That's why it's interesting.
What an incredible time to be alive. Seriously. As overwhelming as it seems, the future is ours to shape. See, the world is not only changing, it’s becoming a much smaller place. Today, we are connected to people in at least 12 other countries besides our own. This means that our ability to influence can reach beyond our traditional boundaries.
This is indeed a new realm, one where the rules are being written as we go. As a result, change either happens to us or because of us. I prefer to think it's the latter.
Seek inspiration beyond the oversimplified.
Become disenchanted with anything that takes complex subjects and breaks them down into “Top 10” lists.
Refute advice that is solely created to trigger comments, linkbacks, Retweets and Shares rather than provide meaningful direction.
The future is up to you. If this was easy, then anyone could do it.
We cannot assume that others have figured anything out. This is new. This is different. Doing something differently takes learning something new.
What this world needs now is leaders, not managers. So, make your work matter. Make it…you. We will follow.
Please take a moment to see Hugh's side of the story...
