Practical problems and examples, Pragmatic programming practices in Q and Pure Pleasure of Reading
After reading several tutorials and materials on Q programming language and Kdb+ system, I think that q For Mortals Version 3: An Introduction to q Programming is most probably the best way to dive into the world of Kdb+ and Q programming. Jeffry A. Borror has a very pragmatic approach to Kdb+ and Q as efficient software development tools. Jeffry is very helpful in explaining how Q and Kdb+ establish their unique value in the context of declarative programming paradigm. The book was thought of as a very practical tutorial, so downloading a free copy of Kdb+ from the kx.com website, would help a reader to grasp the true power of Q. In summary, q For Mortals Version 3: An Introduction to q Programming is a mix of practical problems and solutions, pragmatic Q programming practices and flavored with a perfect sense of humor of a Q-God, Jeffry A. Borror.

2.0 out of 5 stars Good Content, low quality paper and print.
Reviewed in the United Kingdom on March 27, 2016
I’m really disappointed: The quality of medium on which this book is printed (photocopied?) is questionable. The paper quality is 80gsm A4 size, with a standard sized (24/19cm) book’s text zoomed on to it; A university student with a photocopying card would achieve similar. At £65 this book is a physical embarrassment. As for the content, I can’t fault it. However, unless one is a ultra power user, then the book “Q Tips: Fast, Scalable and Maintainable Kdb+” is a better option. That book comes in ebook format, which for a freelancer as my self, is essential. If "Q For Mortals Version 3" came in ebook format I would buy it immediately. For now, I will keep using the version 2 of this book, that I bought from a second hand store.
4.0 out of 5 stars Great Content - Shame about the size and weight

A great reference and much improved over the previous edition. It is a shame that the book is so large in format and heavy. It simply does not travel well nor fit in my knapsack. It is as if the author wanted accommodate those who can't find their reading glasses!
The original format was perfect. Offering a Kindle version of the book would be ideal so one can read the book on my tablet (offline).
