A teenager has died after getting into difficulty in the water at a Lake District beauty spot. Emergency services were called at around 4.35pm on Saturday to Grasmere lake following reports that a young man had got into difficulty in the water, Cumbria Police said. Dorset Police received a report at 11.05pm on Saturday from a member of the public raising concern for the welfare of a woman who had been seen entering the water from Weymouth Esplanade.

Temperatures have exceeded 30C in south-east England as the UK prepares for a fifth heatwave in the coming week, while north-west Scotland has experienced half a month's rainfall in just two days.

Early prison release policy is still under review as the government considers options available to block the release of PC Andrew Harper's killers, Sky News understands. Prime Minister Andy Burnham announced earlier this week that rapists, groomers and those who have committed serious child sexual offences will be excluded from the policy, which is set to free at least 5.000 people earlier in their sentences from October. PC Harper was killed in 2019 while he responded to reports of a burglary.

In televised comments at Sunday's weekly cabinet meeting, the Israeli prime minister also said his military will not make "any withdrawal" from the Palestinian territory until Hamas fully disarms. Mr Netanyahu also warned that as long as he is PM there will be no Palestinian state in Gaza or the West Bank and Iran "will not have nuclear weapons".
