Your top three

At lunch today my coworkers and I started talking about top three lists: top three movies, top three books, etc.

One coworker mentioned that he and his wife once figured out their top three.

“Top three what?,” we all asked. “Just top three. Out of everything ever: things, ideas, actions, everything. What is your top three?,” he responded.

That is a perplexing question. If we were to boil down all that is ourselves into three statements, or groupings of words, what would those three be?

So my coworkers chose to find my top three, and I have to say that the results speak volumes, not only about myself, but about how I am perceived by my peer group. They said my top three are as follows:

  1. An inquisitive nature, and a predisposition to solve problems. Whether it is playing a game of Set, creating a regular expression, or architecting a full stack, I have a passion to find the solution.
  2. A deep connection with my wife. My bond with Signe and our life together. My connectedness with her, my community, and the friends around me stand out as a part of who I am.
  3. Evangelical. Not in the religious sense, but in the sense that I have a burning desire to spread knowledge. Code quality and the power of testing, my love of Ke$ha’s music, my passion about loving your job and constantly improving yourself. Whatever it is, I have an urge to share and spread my way of thinking.

I thought it was great to hear other people I know well describe me. So what is YOUR top three?

You might be pleased and surprised at what you find.
