I saw a post on Hacker News the other day about someone possibly getting squeezed out of their position in a startup.
The top comment suggested getting a lawyer.
I agree with this comment.
A good lawyer is not someone that walks around saying, “Let’s sue!”
A good lawyer makes sure you are protected because all the bases are covered.
A good lawyer brings experience and a cool head to the game.
This line of thought reminded of this 2011/03 Mike Monteiro | F*ck You. Pay Me. talk about the need for good lawyers.
It is a different context, but the need to legally protect yourself in business is the same.
The discussion, also, reminded me of the classic movie Treasure of the Sierra Madre (sorry, I never read the book).
Everything is great until people realize that a startup really is a business.
