Latest
Case Studies
Monitoring air quality in space requires uninterrupted, high-performance data acquisition in an extremely compact and robust system. NASA used Red Pitaya’s STEMlab 125-14 to build a rugged, FPGA-powered platform with minimal size and weight that delivers real-time, autonomous monitoring aboard the ISS, surviving launch forces and microgravity while providing precise measurements of oxygen, carbon dioxide, nitrogen, methane, and humidity—showing how Red Pitaya enables teams to tackle demanding measurement challenges in extreme environments.
Latest
Case Studies
Silicon Microgravity (SMG) develops advanced MEMS sensors, but testing digital algorithms and hardware often required complex custom setups. Using Red Pitaya’s SDRlab 122-16 and STEMlab 125-14 Low-Noise boards, they built a flexible, FPGA-powered platform with high-resolution, low-noise sampling. This enabled SMG to accelerate development, streamline integration, and test complex setups cost-effectively, without the need to redesign hardware—showing how Red Pitaya helps teams efficiently validate and scale sensor and hardware systems.

Case Studies
Scaling a laser system to monitor greenhouse gas emissions across miles of terrain presented major challenges for LongPath Technologies. They needed real-time, high-speed data acquisition, robust field-ready hardware, and a cost-effective path to expand. With Red Pitaya boards, they created a scalable, FPGA-powered platform that processes massive data streams on-device, synchronizes multiple sensors in real time, and enabled a tenfold system expansion—demonstrating how Red Pitaya helps teams in any industry tackle high-performance, data-intensive measurement challenges with speed, precision, and flexibility.

Case Studies
Flight testing aircraft is traditionally resource-intensive, requiring miles of wiring, bulky sensors, and heavy instrumentation that slow down testing and increase costs. NASA solved this with developing its Fibre Optic Sensing System (FOSS) to monitor thousands of points on aircraft in real time. By integrating Red Pitaya’s STEMlab 125-14, NASA created a compact, FPGA-powered platform capable of high-speed, low-latency data acquisition and Edge processing. This approach reduces environmental impact while enhancing test fidelity—and can be applied to any project requiring compact, reliable, high-density, real-time data acquisition, from aerospace and spaceflight to cryogenic systems or harsh environments.

Case Studies
Prevas and SKB needed to capture and analyze hundreds-of-MHz signals across 96 channels—without massive racks or prohibitive costs. Using Red Pitaya STEMlab boards, they built a compact, fully synchronized DAQ system with on-board FPGA processing and deep-memory streaming. The result: a scalable, cost-efficient solution that handles massive data in real time—so teams facing high-speed, multi-channel measurement challenges can do the same with less complexity and expense.

Client stories
Hear what they say!
»We did some tests with the SignalLab 250-12. I have to say the device is surprisingly good: very low noise and high stability.«
Erik Winkelmann
Supervisor Monitoring Systems at HIGHVOLT
»I have had the chance to have a Red Pitaya from the initial release. The device is my “go-to” desktop testing tool. Its capabilities far exceed its size. The best part is that the community is expanding as are the hardware and software options. The Red Pitaya is truly blossoming. I look forward to its future growth.«
Adam Carlson
Advanced Lead Engineer at GE Aviation
»Red Pitaya has been critical in transitioning our system from a proof-of-concept, laboratory instrument to a field-hardened industrial tool.«
Robert Wright
Co-Founder and VP Engineering at LongPath Technologies
»Red Pitaya is exactly what I have been looking for: having one of the latest FPGAs combined with fast and broad AD- and DA-converters attached to that chip.«
Ulrich Habel
Radio Communications System Engineer
»We are currently using Red Pitaya’s STEMlab 125-14 to check if communication signals are according to the specifications. We really value the versatility and portability of the board.«
Mark van’t Land
Manager Software Engineering at Urban Mobility Systems
»The STEMLAB125-14 makes our life in the lab so much easier. If we ever encounter a challenge where the solution is not built in, we find great knowledge in the community. Sometimes there are even ready-to-use add-ons. The price/performance and size/performance ratio is unbeatable.«
Dr. Florian Karlewski
Head of Research and Development at HighFinesse Laser and Electronic Systems GmbH
»The STEMlab 125-14 has become an essential tool in our Continuous Integration with Hardware-in-the-Loop project. Thanks to its logic analyzer with advanced decoding and oscilloscope capabilities, we can easily diagnose issues in communication protocols. The intuitive web interface made it simple to integrate quickly, even with limited prior experience.«

Frequently Asked Questions - Red Pitaya Gen 2
❓ When will Red Pitaya Gen 2 be available for purchase?
Red Pitaya Gen 2 will be available from September 2025 (Q4).
❓ Where will I be able to purchase Red Pitaya Gen 2?
Gen 2 will be available directly through our webshop and via all official Red Pitaya distributors.
❓ How long will original Red Pitaya boards remain available?
We plan to continue producing the original boards through 2026, with two exceptions:
- STEMlab 125-14 Low Noise
- STEMlab 125-14 Z7020
These two models will be produced only until the end of 2025.
❓ How long will original boards be supported for?
Software support will continue for the foreseeable future. Since Gen 2 is backwards compatible, any software that works on Gen 2 will also work on original boards.
❓ Are Gen 2 boards the same size as the original Red Pitaya boards?
Yes, Gen 2 shares the same dimensions, mounting holes, and main connectors as the original boards. However, please note the following:
- Gen 2 features USB-C connectors instead of SATA.
- Some versions may optionally include a QSPI eMMC module.
We recommend reviewing the STEP models for both original boards and Gen 2 when planning mechanical integration or enclosures.
❓ Can I use first-generation and Gen 2 boards in the same system?
In most cases, yes. Gen 2 boards offer improved measurement quality and are backward compatible for many applications. However, daisy-chaining original and Gen 2 boards together is not supported, as the SATA connectors used on original boards have been replaced with USB-C on Gen 2.
❓ Does Red Pitaya Gen 2 use the same software as the original boards?
Yes, Gen 2 uses the same software environment. However, please ensure you are using Red Pitaya OS 2.00 or higher, as earlier OS versions are not compatible. If your application includes custom software, minor adjustments may be required.
❓ Are all Red Pitaya accessories compatible with Gen 2?
Yes, accessories connected via the E1 and E2 headers are fully compatible. However:
- The power supply has changed, so a new PSU will be required.
- A new aluminum enclosure will be available for Gen 2.
❓ I have an original board integrated into my product. Can I replace it with Gen 2?
If you're using the official Red Pitaya OS and have modified the FPGA image, please ensure your project is compatible with Red Pitaya OS 2.00+. Learn more about updating FPGA images here.
