DC study, bylaw revamped again
King’s 2025 Development Charge Background Study and Bylaw returned for more tweaking, sparked by recent changes mandated by the Province. King council and staff reported on the DC bylaw, which is set to expire Jan. 13, 2026. Since the release of the background study on in October, the Province enacted Bill 60 – Fighting Delays, Building Faster Act, 2025 – which introduces several amendments to the Development Charges Act (D.C.A.) that impact the Township’s 2025 background study.

Resident gives a voice to dogs, looking for volunteers and fosters
A King resident is speaking up for the most loyal among us – dogs. Kalynn Borland volunteers with Across the Ocean Rescue, a dog-rescue organization serving the GTA. “Right now, we are overwhelmed. We have an influx of large-breed dogs — many of them still puppies — who were born for wide-open land, family protection, and purposeful living,” she said, With a heavy heart, she’s reaching out in the hopes of saving “the lives of several incredible dogs who desperately need our community’s help.”

Chamber recognizes local businesses with awards, accolades
Local businesses and their dedicated teams were in the spotlight last week, during the Excellence in Business Awards ceremony, hosted by the King Chamber of Commerce. The elevated annual gala was by far the best, presented by a bevy of Chamber volunteers. MC Elvira Caria said local businesses give life to the community and each one is instrumental to King’s success.
Council passes motion strengthening Greenbelt
King Township has penned a motion, urging the Province to strengthen protection of the Greenbelt. King is also asking Queen’s Park to provide the necessary “tools” to enforce Greenbelt policies.
Community engaged through Official Plan review
King’s guiding document – the Our King Official Plan – presents an orderly, coordinated planning approach through 2051. Staff presented an update to council recently, including a vast array of information and data through reports, discussion papers and community feedback. This will culminate in an updated OP, to be presented for approval in 2026.
Caledon residents welcome human rights activists during visit to Canada

The Schomberg Cougars took to the ice at the Trisan Centre on Thursday night to launch their 56th season and commence their 2nd campaign in the PJHL’s challenging East Orr Division. The Cougars hosted the perennial powerhouse Clarington Eagles to kick off their 2025-26 season and the rookie-laden squad turned in a feisty performance in a narrow 2-1 loss to the reigning East Orr Division champs.

Rebellion U9 captures York-Simcoe title
For the 2024/2025 season the U9MD King Rebellion went undefeated during the regular season and playoffs, with the lowest GAA average in all of York Simcoe Minor Hockey League. They took to the ice on April 5 at the new Zancor Centre for their Championship game against the Barrie Colts White. With a packed house of fans cheering them on, they were victorious, winning the game 6-3 for the first-ever York-Simcoe U9MD Tier 1 Championship for the King Rebellion.

The King Junior A Rebellion drove north to snowy Collingwood on Friday night and upset the second-seeded Blues 4-3 to take a 1-0 lead in their best-of-seven OJHL West quarterfinal series.
