When you first enter a new area of life previously un-explored there are bound to be gaps in your knowledge. The best thing to do is to understand this fact. I was having a good conversation with a co-worker today that inspired this post. The root was that anytime you enter an area of programming or systems you have never seen before, you have knowledge gaps. As you close those gaps the others working in this area appear to be normal humans again.
For some reason we seem to put others with more, or different knowledge than us on a pedestal. As we talked it became clear that we have both overcome this issue in our life and come out the other end better for it. If you are able to realize this, embrace this “hump” of initial learning, you are bound to succeed. Perhaps it is not always the smartest person who is the most successful, but it is the one who is able to overcome these “humps” or natural filters.
Natural filters happen to be a way of the Universe weeding people out. I bet if you are university educated, perhaps even technically you are happy such filters exist. This gives value to your education and profession. This same value exists in the world for other types of filters. It’s not new, or groundbreaking but remembering that these filters exist for a reason, perhaps you will embrace the opportunity to overcome them next time!
