Adobe has launched Lightroom mobile for Apple's iPad as a companion app to the Lightroom desktop application. The app offers many of same image editing and organizing functions found on the desktop version. It also uses cloud technology to synchronize your edits across various devices with the image catalog on your desktop computer. Lightroom mobile includes the following tools:
- Synchronization of mobile edits, metadata and collection changes back to the Lightroom catalog on a Mac or Windows computer.
- Automatic import of images captured on an iPad and sync back to a Lightroom catalog on the desktop.
- Offline-editing of images.
- Synchronization of photos between Lightroom 5 and Lightroom mobile - synced photos can also be viewed from any Web browser.
Download and installation of Lightroom mobile on the iPad are free but you need a subscription to Adobe's Creative Cloud service for it to work. Currently the most appealing subscription package for photographers is the Photoshop Photography Program which is $9.99 per month in the U.S. and includes Lightroom 5, Photoshop CC, Lightroom mobile, a portfolio site and 20GB of cloud storage.
To use Lightroom mobile you'll need an iPad 2 or newer running iOS7 and the latest version of the desktop software (5.4) installed on your Mac or PC. You can find more information about the new app and instructional videos on the Photoshop Blog and Adobe website.
