Developers, designers and makers gathered in Downtown Las Vegas this last weekend for the Vegas Hack and Stitch Factory Fashion Tech Hackathon. We partnered with Third Wave Fashion for this awesome event. What is Fashion Tech? Think Q from James Bond, or Edna Mode from The Incredibles. Our speaker, Liza Kindred of Third Wave Fashion, had a more down to earth definition of Fashion Tech. In a special presentation on the state of Fashion Tech for us as technology that helps create, distribute and sell fashion.

After two days of hacking, a panel of judges descended on the room to hear the pitches and deliberate on the winners. Unfortunately, Lobot was unavailable, so we had to settle for Shanna Tellerman of Google Ventures, Jake Bronstein of Flint and Tinder, Dominique Piotet of Rebellion Lab and Liza Kindred of 3rd Wave Fashion. And without further ado, the “Best Dressed” hacks as decided by our judges were…

Chromatee

Brought to you by the wizards at Betabrand, Chromatee is technology that let’s you harness the power of the green screen in the form of a t-shirt. I expect to see this product soon on the Betabrand Think Tank.

Qriosity

This app was worked on by a team including some Zappos developers and brings the magic of Zappos Customer Service to the unboxing experience. This team uses QR codes in your shipment to link you back to a profile page where you can not only see the product you purchased but also see recommendations for similar products in case you want to exchange or buy something else. As an added bonus, this team included the ability to generate an indecision defeating Wedgie Poll that a customer can give to their friends to crowdsource fashion decisions.

Stitch Hub

This website brings the collaboration tools of Github to the world of fashion, allowing designers to embrace and extend each other’s designs. Great feedback from the judges helped the hackers understand how the fashion industry collaborates, what works and what doesn’t.

Magic Mirror

A mind blowing demo from the Combat Gent team included a wardrobe piece with a RFID reader, webcam and mirror that detected what item of clothing you are wearing as you neared the hack and shared it with someone you wanted a second opinion from. It was pitched as all the benefits of shopping with your mother without having to shop with your mother.

Meow Shoes

Our grand prize winner was Meow Shoes by Susan Hinton. There are literally no words for how awesome this hack was. Watch for yourself.
