As a passing non sequiteur, I love how we can wind up introducing fractional accuracy to measurements into deep time like this. 2,250,000,000 years ago, give or take 150,000,000 years or so. -It was either on a monday, or a sunday, but we're not sure which.

If there had been a major biosystem of methane preferring critters, we'd be looking at versions of the dinosoars-and-meteor cartoon with "whats that smell? did somebody fart oxygen?" titles under a soup of unicellular life.
