Property insurance has doubled in Texas where I am. I plan to rent out my house in land 40 miles from Austin to cover the taxes and insurance, then buy the largest, used Airstream and plant it on the beach (Mustang Island) among the stilt houses (no insurance either).

When the hurricane comes near, I can tow it to the mainland.

The local districts can only tax my land, the Airstream doesn't get taxed . Hobie Cat will be stored right next to me.

I would not purchase a house unless you’re looking to retire into it or if you can change jobs easily without moving. Retirement is far easier without house payments, but they can be illiquid assets in downturns when people have to move for work.
