OP here. I am excited to share my Hacker News client with you all. After working as a Android developer for a while I felt that the time has come that I bring out first Android app.

I’ve been a daily HN reader for the past few years, and it’s usually the first place I go when I have a few spare minutes while commuting or wating.

I tried a lot of existing Android HN readers, but none of them quite fit what I wanted: Something more akin to reddit or medium

The main things I wanted were:

- comment threads that start collapsed, so I can expand only the discussions I’m interested in - reading history, so I can find stories I read but forgot to save - bookmarks for both stories and comments - custom lists for organizing bookmarks by topic - the ability to upvote, comment, and submit stories - no ads, no subscriptions and many other features which I would let the app speak for itself.

HackerFlow is written natively for Android using Kotlin and Jetpack Compose.

You can use it without logging in, but login is needed for upvoting, commenting, and submitting stories.

I am available here for any questions and feedback to make the app better!

Cool. It's not obvious from the page if this syncs offline or not?

It should, and it would be a great feature to be able to search your indexed local DB.

Currently it doesn't but an alpha tester also asked for this feature. I will add it to the back log

I like the app! A filter by keyword would be amazing to sort by topic, but apart from this, I am very satisfied

Happy to hear that! Filtering by keyword will be added some time later this year

Do you plan to implement it also for ios?

Yeah definetly, I already started working on it and I plan to launch it in the next few months. For now I was hoping to get some feedback as soon as possible or as they say "fail quickly"
