Apple made a request to the EC to be exempted from interop obligations under DMA
audiovisual.ec.europa.euSo Apple built a feature that’s not good enough to use in a “competitive market” and now wants to wiggle their way out by blaming the very laws designed to protect people from shady corps.
I think the DMA is working just fine. It’s not like Apple had no idea this will happen.
Title comes from a quote in the video:
> Instead of trying to find a suitable compliant solution, Apple simply made a request to the European Commission to be extempted from their interoperability obligations under the DMA.

I am sick of companies vendor locking me into their software and PATRONISE me its the better choice for me.
If someone says yeah yeah buy an android. You know what: Google is locking down Androids as well. This is the track path of Google as now and Apple is just the role model.
I can complain about the EU's regulation but currently they are the only force trying me using my own software on my own hardware. I hope Open Source will be funded a lot better so I can say fuck you to Google and Apple and Meta and X.
EU bureaucrats really earning their name here. Maybe they can realize real choice and innovation will come from allowing different operating systems on locked down hardware, instead of this crusade against Siri AI. Something that is easily fixed by downloading literally any other AI or agentic photo/video/whatever app.
This is a joke right? Like how you can download any browser on iOS as long as they are all running on Apple’s engine.
I am for real browser choice, and also for real operating system choice. You can download other photo apps and not use Siri AI if you don't want to. Not sure why you would think this is similar to the browser situation on iOS at least in the USA. I believe alternate browser engines are allowed in the EU now thanks to the DMA.
Because literally any other AI cannot have the same privileges that Siri AI. The DMA allowed actual browser choice, it can also allow real AI choice.
I hope the EU and DMA succeed in that case, but would also like to point out operating system choices would also help accomplish the same objective of the DMA.
