When will that "dashboard with tacked-on tablets" trend stop?

It can somehow be excused in cheap models because new versions are generally incremental evolutions, which would make proper integration of the touchscreen harder/more expensive. But not in a brand new model of a luxury brand.

Google the handicap principle. For luxury goods, theory of the leisure class design rules apply. It has nothing to do with functionality or rationality. And that is precisely what the target buyer wants to signal through the luxury good - listen chimps - look at me - we have resources to waste - dont you want to be like me then do what I say.

Problem in 2026, where every signal gets warped by the attention economy that has permeated under everything, is the peoples attention on the status object keeps shifting constantly. From last week to this week what gets attention and through it status changes. So all the veblen car makers (porsche, lambo etc) are having a hard time making anything that clicks like it did in the past. Lot of designers say its not possible anymore.
