This is a great victory because Spain's tax system contains structural mechanisms that turn 'Hacienda' into judge and jury, incentivising the aggressive pursuit of taxpayers.

What, a law firm that represent billionaires, Russian oligarchs, and tax avoiding digital nomads acting against taxes? They can leave our beaches if they don't like paying taxes, we won't miss them.

…she was told she had to pay taxes that she didn’t owe. It was a shakedown, which is quite common for the Spanish tax agency.

And I understand it when you owe tens of millions of euros and plenty of resources to make everything properly.

She did everything properly, but the tax agency illegally imposed a fine on her anyway.

Remember that in Spain the tax agency loses 51 % of trials. I assume the percent would be even higher if everybody could afford to defend themselves.

That's just ridiculous. Her kids are schooled in Barcelona.

The article is rather explicit that the acquittal is only about tax year 2011. She already settled a case about her taxes from 2012-2014 by paying a €7.3m fine. Her first child was born in January 2013.

Thanks, although it doesn't mention that the other charges went through and she paid for them until the previous to last paragraph, so it's very confusing...
