‘The hackers responsible have exploited automatic tank gauge (ATG) systems that were sitting online and unprotected by passwords’

‘Cybersecurity researchers have been warning about internet-facing ATGs for over a decade. In 2015, security firm Trend Micro put mock ATG systems online to see what kind of hackers would target them. A pro-Iran group was quick to surface.’

‘A 2021 report from Sky News cited internal documents from the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps that singled out ATGs as a potential target for a disruptive cyberattack on gas stations.’

So these are deliberately being left open to attack then. Americans love nothing more than seeing news footage of lines of cars trying to refuel, and the government would use it as a reason to invade Iran.

Truckers that refill stations use physical sticks to measure tanks, there is already a robust analog solution. This is a nothing burger sent by our hawkish US government looking to further villainize Iran.

So under your model, the tankers just drive around, dipping tanks, to see who needs a delivery?

Station staff can also dip the tanks and call for refills as needed. Commonplace.

Fuel is measured as it is sold, so presumably this is the primary system for knowing when they will need a refill.

I would guess the delivery driver dips the tank as a failsafe, because spilling fuel is a Big Deal - whether it's an overflow or perhaps even just filling a tank that is leaking.

(I do agree with GP's point about the administration's need to villainize Iran to maintain whatever support they can for the Epstein war though)

the article raises concern, that manipulation may cause tankleakage,or incorrect volume indications.

i would havesome concern regarding appraisalof held resources.
