Glad that Microsoft is getting the message but I doubt that an "effort" to correct the rot from the last 10 years will yield much results. There needs to be a total refocus and probably a substantial rewrite of everything in UX land. Most important is that network calls need to be totally eliminated from anywhere where network connectivity is not central to the application's purpose.

They should go the Apple route and rewrite their entire OS from the ground up and relegate all compatibility issues to a Proton-esque interpretation layer.

That's what they should do. But they won't, because every decision maker at Microslop incorporated has their head surgically attached to their own colon.

> Microsoft intends to focus primarily on three key areas:

> 1. Performance

> 2. Craft

> 3. Reliability

Such as:

> Using a new system compositor for WinUI 3, the performance of various applications such as File Explorer, the Start menu, and the taskbar is not expected to slow down even under heavy system load

> The new Start menu is said to respond up to 60 percent faster

> Microsoft is even considering removing all advertising from the Start menu.

> intended to scale back its focus on AI features.

I feel bad for the people working on it, but looking at the selected metric "60% faster", I don't think it is enough to turn the tides.

The correct metric would be something like "opens within one frame at 60fps". But that would require product design changes, not a technical problem.
