Mortgage lenders to consider rent history in mortgage applications

There are cases where people share a lease with roommates but overall I don’t see why this is not a thing. I purchased a house last year after renting for a few years, I had to provide credit and financial information but nothing about the years renting an expensive house, never missing a payment nor being late, specially for self employed people renting history has to be used.
