Dead Internet Theory – A Win?
medium.comBy this logic, shouldn't we just shut the internet down? If it’s truly dead, just bots taking to bots, and people should go touch grass… why should we continue to maintain it? Just pull the plug on the whole experiment.
Some sources say over 50% of online articles are now written by AI. There are a ton of financial incentives for companies/people to create spam bots with massive scale.
So I see 3 different responses: 1 - fight for the human internet! Try to block increasingly clever bots from surfing, creating, and spamming 2 - Keep using the internet and just get increasingly angered/annoyed by stuff you can no longer tell is human or bot-created 3 - Lessen your internet usage because it's less useful & interesting than in the past.
I think #3 could actually happen. Like we'll still buy stuff from Amazon, order food on DoorDash, and check in on our friends. But if the AI agents get good enough, you might just ask them to do your online bidding for you. Little need to go to a browser or check your social apps when you can just get exactly what you're looking for from your agent.
