RK3588 and RK3576 video decoders support merged in the upstream Linux Kernel
collabora.comWhat would prevent this from working with something like Vlc or kodi?
Is it as simple as upgrading to a trunk based kernel?
Oh that’s interesting. 3588 in a passive configuration is viable so could make for a good media box for a tv. And they’re pretty cheap too
3588 is not cheap at all
$115 domestic US price for a home-theater PC with all the trimmings on the PCB: https://www.amazon.com/Orange-Pi-Frequency-Development-Andro...
Seems fairly cheap.
Need to add a charger (5V), a box and cooling. More like $160/170. An Intel N100 box or a used miniPC has more mileage. I own myself one of this and the support is pretty bad for anything related to graphics, while headless armbian works fine
I mean yeah, I agree. I’d probably go for an i3-1235U NUC myself. At least before RAM and NVMe shot the price from ~$225 to $500 in just the past 6 months.
N100’s are still cheap, and more directly comparable to the Rockchips, but they really were supposed to be replaced at the same price point by now. Intel will be releasing the 2.5-3rd generation of the N100 tier lineup this year and the N100 tier still stands alone in price due to silicon production shortages and old stock.
$20-40 IC in China
An Orange Pi 5 is already $130-140
> AV1 on RK3576, which has very preliminary support
This peaked my interest, but I have no idea which device might have a RK3576
piqued
Thanks :) I’ll try to remember
