Show HN: A modern alternative to OpenInsider, with more transaction types
13radar.comHi HN,
I've been working on 13radar.com, a site focused on tracking institutional holdings. Today, I’m releasing a beta version of our new Insider Trading Tracker.
Like many of you, I've used OpenInsider for years. It's a legendary tool, but the UI hasn't changed in decades, and the data classification can be broad. I wanted to build something that feels modern and digs deeper into the data.
How it differs from existing tools (OpenInsider / GuruFocus):
Granularity: We parse SEC Form 4 filings to categorize transactions into finer types. Instead of just "Buy/Sell," we try to distinguish specific grants, exercises, and other transactions more clearly than OpenInsider.
Data Depth: We are displaying more transaction types than GuruFocus (which often aggregates or hides specific non-open-market actions).
Modern UX: Fast filtering, clean mobile support, and a responsive interface. No 1990s table layouts.
It's currently in Beta. We are still tuning the parsing logic for edge cases in SEC filings.
I'd love to get your feedback on the data accuracy and the UI. Is there a specific filter or transaction type you find missing in other tools that you'd like to see here?

Thanks! Hi HN, OP here. OpenInsider is great and inspired this, we just wanted to modernize the stack.
We focused on parsing Form 4s with more granularity (distinguishing grants/options from open market buys) and building a faster, mobile-friendly UI.
Would love to hear your feedback on the data accuracy! The granularity on the transaction types is spot on. It's always been frustrating trying to decipher specific Form 4 footnotes on other platforms. The way you've categorized the specific grant types vs. open market purchases makes the signal-to-noise ratio much better. Keep it up! Thanks so much — really glad the categorization is helping cut through the noise. Congrats on the launch. OpenInsider is legendary but definitely shows its age.
Two questions:
How does your parsing latency compare to the raw SEC feed?
What is the business model? Will this granularity remain free, or is this the lead magnet for a paid pro tier? Thanks! OpenInsider is absolutely the OG in this space.
To answer your questions:
Latency: We poll the SEC RSS feed continuously. The parsing logic (classifying the transaction types) takes a few seconds. So, while not 'HFT real-time' (microseconds), it is 'human real-time' (usually appearing on our site within seconds of the SEC publishing). Sufficient for manual analysis, but maybe not for algos front-running the market.
Business Model: We plan to keep the web interface (including the granularity and filters) free for public research. We believe this level of data transparency should be the standard.
Our plan for a future 'Pro' tier focuses on automation and convenience, such as:
Real-time Email alerts for specific tickers/insiders.
API access for developers.
Bulk CSV exports for backtesting.
The goal is to make the best research tool free, and charge for the infrastructure tools." Nice work. The finer-grained breakdown of Form 4 transactions (beyond simple buy/sell) is a meaningful improvement over OpenInsider. The UI also feels much more modern and usable. Curious how you’re handling Form 4 edge cases as you iterate on accuracy. Awesome feature! Thanks
