I'll wait for post release reviews, but have always been very interested in the concept, especially if using desktop grade apps and window management isn't restricted solely to a connected display, but can also be run on the phones screen. Using a keyboard like Clicks on an iPhone makes remote use of desktop grade operating systems incredibly feasible on a smartphone, both because input is much more reliable and because the virtual keyboard doesn't take up valuable screen real estate.

Have a suspicion that the Nexdock team will have a sudden and quite strong spike in competition within the coming months though, because I could see Apple allowing proper windowing on the upcoming foldable iPhone. And, for better and worse, once Apple does something, everyone else follows, occasionally even throwing their own sometimes superior existing solutions out with the bath water. If e.g. Dex starts borrowing heavily from Stage Manager and loses some of its capabilities, it wouldn't surprise me.

Course, Dex, whatever Apple may do and Androids desktop mode are currently more restricted then this is likely to be, but that is merely a feature flag if we are honest and could change at any moment. Heck, Dex once did support Linux applications, that could return.

With my experience regarding Windows on Arm application support vs x86, I don't even see a major advantage there, especially if Valves investment in Fex pays off.

Concerning my personal and very peculiar way of using my phones, my dream would be a foldable iPhone with iOS unlocked to allow terminal and Xcode plus a Clicks Keyboard with a trackball. Get that I am probably very lonely in wanting something like this, but I could honestly leave my laptop at home most days if that existed.

Is the source code for the operating system combination available?

..."not guarantee a specific delivery date. Our current target is Q3 2026"

Let me know when it's ready and there ate some reviews. Paying 9.months in advance, even partially, for a product of some unknown company, seems a bad deal to me.
