Brazil's first arid zone is a stark warning for the whole country

The trench in the article seems like a temporary solution at best. At some point, the ground water will also disappear. There needs to be a lot more effort put into large scale sustainable process. But that’s something only a government can do. Until then, these poor farmers and rural communities are going to suffer, unfortunately.
