Jellyfin does hardware transcoding for free, and Plex wants $250 to match it
xda-developers.comI recently spun up Jellyfin in a container about 1-2 years after my last setup and was impressed with the polish. My library auto-updated with correct titles, images, etc.
The only missing piece is a solid Apple TV app. I tried Swiftfin, and maybe the AppStore version is old, but it's just as buggy and unpolished as I remember.
However it /does/ work and I can play movies via SMB piped into Jellyfin and then to Swiftfin on an Apple TV rooms away. Reminds me of the old Xbox/Kodi days but with modern hardware.
For an AppleTV app, Infuse has been good for me. It’s a paid app but worth it, imo.
Thanks for the recommendation! I'll check it out. Happy to pay for better UX in this case :)
