The lost cause of the Lisp machines

There’s a well-known syndrome amongst photographers and musicians called GAS: gear acquisition syndrome.

I've known rock climbers, golfers, and scuba divers with GAS, but I've not heard it named in the past. Is this a regional word, or have I merely lived under a rock?
