But everyone should lift weights. The benefit to strength training versus not is so substantial that there is no reason why everyone shouldn't lift weights with few exceptions.

If you are unfamiliar with strength training there are many programs you can get started with for beginners (e.g., stronglifts 5x5). Not all of these programs are optimal (e.g., stronglifts 5x5). But the important thing is to get in the gym and learn the movements just to get started. Once you have a good habit of going to the gym and doing strength training you can then work on progressive overloads, keeping one rep in reserve, program cycling, etc. For me, I do strength training 4 hours a week, its not that much of a time commitment.

    Marathon runners should also lift weights. Cross training helps you run faster.

    Though four hours a week feels like a lot.
