Ask HN: Claude Code vs. ChatGPT Pro?
I'm a big fan of agentic coding with Claude Code, but I've noticed it gets expensive pretty quickly if you don't have a Max plan, especially when using Opus.
Since I also use ChatGPT a lot for both work and personal projects, I'm considering either a ChatGPT Pro or Claude Max subscription. I've tested ChatGPT Codex (cloud) on my Plus plan, but in my opinion, it doesn't come close to what Claude 4 (even the non-Opus version) can do.
I've read that ChatGPT Pro gives you access to the o3-pro model. For anyone who's tried both, how does o3-pro compare to Claude 4 in terms of coding? I prefer Codex's web UI, but I'm looking for the best overall experience. Get both ChatGPT Pro and Claude Max if you can. Otherwise, it's a tough choice and depends on how much of your AI time is spent coding versus chatting. If you mostly code, go with Claude Max; otherwise, I'd prefer ChatGPT Pro + Claude Pro.
