Great read. A major theme is similar to “separate the art from the artist” emotional conflicts that come with terrible humans creating beautiful things. If true - that Jim had a hand in the creation (as lead or senior team member / director) this totally computes. Humans are irrational. A guy who clearly doesn’t need the money in the original bitcoin wallet, who is more rewarded by the intellectual impact and observable results of his Creature, makes sense to me. Don’t meet your heroes and all that jazz. You might get hosed.

Full un-shortened headline: In Pursuit of the Bitcoin God. Years of studying Satoshi Nakamoto led me to a new prime suspect. What if crypto’s creator is just a jerk?

The author relies heavily on language patterns to try and crack the code of one of the best kept identity secrets.

As someone that is not notable, but enjoys anonymity, one of my primary tools is mixing up my language.. using words and conversation that I wouldn’t otherwise.. especially the use of British English phrases and spellings.

I find it rather soothing to know someone who spends so much time on this stuff puts so much weight on these things.

Wait so the author thinks that the famously anonymous inventor of the famously anonymous cryptocurrency failed to take writing style into account when covering his tracks? It is about the only viable way of tracking Santoshi down. Imagining he wouldn’t think of it is arrogant and stupid. I thought of it in five minutes when first considering the problem and I’m nowhere near as smart as that fucker. It would take like twenty lines of python to obfuscate one’s writing style. The greatest thing about it being so easy is that one could write the script multiple times and generate multiple obfuscatory fingerprints which an outsider would see as one fingerprint. To say nothing of deliberate efforts to obfuscate one’s voice. Good luck with that.

Can we just stop with this already? Every false positive ruins someone’s life.
